My Sad Robot

27 May 2020

Well I finished building my robot. I don’t really want it. I only started on it because I’m so bored with the lockdown.

It’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve made in a long time. Two big driver servos, three sonar detectors (for collision avoidance) and a SPAD for forward scanning. If that wasn’t bad enough, it’s got two processors onboard. One for drive maneuvering and one to calculate best path. I keep thinking, what else I could have made with all that 3d printer fillament ?

By the way, SPAD stands for single photon avalanche diode and nothing rude. I stumbled across them when googling for gadgets in a fit of boredom. Once I had found out about them, one just had to be included. All I can say is, thank god I wasn’t googling minature diesel engines!

If you fancy having a go yourself, the STL file is here. Don’t waste too much money on parts like I did …
